Devlog #25


  •  I’ve been polishing the first area, Secret Tunnel, since it’s pretty bad. If I had a chance, I’d never make our players suffer through that area, but we are currently lacking sprites so I’m trying to do my best with what I have. The first part is the most important part so we’ll spend more time after we are done with other refinements.
  •  I separated the introduction into several parts, so you won’t get several paragraphs of text as soon as you start the game at once. Another thing is I changed the map layout, removed the lower part(I left just a little room for chests) but it’s super linear to make sure no one will get lost in the first map.
  •  Improved optimization and merged 4 forest maps into one map, removing loading screens in between. I want to give optimization more time in future since I get low frame rates on Samsung Galaxy S6, which is a pretty decent phone considering this is just a small 2D game. Though performance is getting affected differently on PC and mobile and I’m not sure what's the reason behind this and it might take some time for me to figure it out since it’s not my priority.
  •  Reduced player movement speed, I initially made it faster then it should be with the purpose of avoiding sluggish feeling in game. We have big maps and we’ll add different ways of traveling faster like mounts and warp stone, until then I’m trying to make it easier on the player even though we don’t have running animations but you can toggle running to move faster, default keys will be Left Shift/Left Stick. 
  •  Added a new skill check system which replaced the old combat skill check on PC, mobile will stay the same for now.
  •  Improvements to 3D audio system, added mask based positioning of audio source relative to player position.
  •  Added destructible object types, first examples are the barrels in Secret Tunnel, which drops loot. These objects and cut trees are currently not saved, so they’ll respawn each time you change rooms. I’m planning on adding a simple tracking system for these kinds of objects, so they won’t inflate your save file.
